Traveler's Tips

We are interested in making your stay in our country as nice as possible and we are concerned about the security of our clients. We recommend you to consider the following important data, which will be of interest to you.
  • For your security all of our cars are leased with the basic coverage for damages in case of collision and theft.
  • The use of a seat belt is mandatory by law; you will be responsible to use it and of any tickets you may get.
  • We remind you not to leave any type of personal effects such as baggage, bags, personal computers, neither the CD/Radio in-dash player detachable plate, etc. inside the vehicle when you park the vehicle, either  on the street or at a  hotel, restaurant, or tourist site. That way, you will avoid serious mishaps such as robbery and /or damage to the vehicle.
  • When you receive the vehicle, get acquainted with it before you leave, ask for the automobile’s details, windows, spare tire, seat belt, etc.
  • Traffic laws in El Salvador, are very strict, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to pass on in curves and exceed speed limits, leads to very expensive tickets, like in any other country in the world, all tickets will be charged to your contract.
  • Always park on a well illuminated area. Have your car keys at hand and verify around the vehicle before you enter.
  • If your car breaks down in a public highway, close all doors, turn hazard lights on and wait for HERTZ’ assistance, call numbers 2264-2826 or to the Airport at 2339-8004.
  • In case of an accident do not move the vehicle, look for an authority delegate, assistance or call our offices so we can provide support, always write down the license number, telephone number and automobile’s plates of the people you collided with. The police report is essential in case of casualty.
  • In case of any emergency (theft or collision of the vehicle, as well as any other damage or partial robbery), it is essential for you to call immediately and from where it took place to phone number 2267-7164, and you will be given assistance 24 hours a day. Never leave the automobile without proper supervision, any damage or robbery will be your responsibility.
  • Children must travel in the back seat, and if they are under 5 years of age they must go in their booster seat, and be buckled up.
  • Speed limits are important, we recommend not exceeding the limit established, and the speeds allowed are:
    • In the city 40 to 60 km/hr
    • In the highway 80 to 120 km/hr, depending on whether it is a highway or a freeway
  • Each vehicle is designed for a specific use; if the one you have rented is not a 4x4, do not drive on damaged or rural roads.
  • La Policia Nacional Civil, has roadblocks in most of the country’s streets, they may ask for your license and passport you, as well as all legal documents for transport of the rental car, which you should make sure you have always with you.
  • In case there is no bridges or roads in the Salvadorian territory, do not drive the automobile through rivers, marshes, beaches, no matter how large they are.
